I have tried Gouache paint before, but the Daler Rowney ones. They came in a ScrawlrBox once. But I didn't paint in a while... would love to see your "guide" on what you need for painting with Gouache

Hullo Gem, I have been watching a lot of videos by Sarah Burns and her Scottish landscapes and she works in gouache quite a lot! I am trying to decide if I want to even go back down the gouache road. I have used gouache before and back then the lack of permanence of gouache was just a given. This idea of using gouache as a fine art medium is so strange to me. I am interested in seeing any content that you might want to show us. I started trying to create some Studio Ghibli paintings that were little more than film grabs! I have even looked into Nicker poster paints as that is what is used for the filming process! So please show us how you work, like, use gouache paints. See ya next video!

Hi, Gem. This was fascinating to watch, as my only experience of this sort of thing was with Reeves poster paints, back in the 1980's. They were absolutely top notch for the job they needed to do - church publicity posters and big wall paintings (six feet by eight mostly - for the chidren's outpatients where I worked). They managed to keep their colour in shop windows for just the needed amount of time - ie maximum ten days! On the hospital clinic walls, with only only artificial lighting, they lasted for a long time - enough time for me to make a new series (ie quite a lot of time!!!) Those I kept in my 'portfolio' have kept their colours, even 40 years later. The thought in my mind with these Art Creation is that these are probably on a par with the Reeves poster paints (in small jars, a thick, opaque liquid), and about the same price tag I'm doing a conversion in my head, to what I could buy for the price then and now -shopping basket sort of thing - 1980's to present day)!. My other thought is this: I think that it would be kind and really helpful to Talens if you'd contact them about your thoughts, and reference this video. You did a first class job of 'seeing' the paints as through the eyes of a beginner, and I think they'd find your comments really helpful, and appreciate the contact. (Lack of info about 'other' equipment, how to do the colour mixing, picture too complicated, etc, so losing the feeling of adventure and finding it 'work' and so on) Gouache has never really excited me, probaby because I love the joy of all that watercolour can do, and gouache can't, and my equal first love is graphite. Even so, I love the way some of you make gouache 'work'! 😊 Sad that you can't have a few pigs .. 🤗

Thanks for giving such a detailed review, I’ve been wanting to try gouache for a while but don’t want to spend a fortune so it’s good to know the pros and cons of cheaper options. Have you ever tried the jelly gouache that comes in little cups? I’d be interested to know how that compares to something like this as it seems a good option got lots of colours at a relatively low price

You can never have too much steampunk

Little tip for the pans that are falling out - pop a drop of water at the bottom of the pan and stick it onto it and it should then adhere properly to the plastic case (in my experience). I think, if I didn't have so many premium artist quality watercolours, this set would definitely be a good purchase. Especially for anyone that is just starting out, they look like a really well rounded colour palette. Loved the Scottish translucency scale Gem!

How cool! I think I might have to snag me some of these now.

Hullo Gem, I have enjoyed watching your version of these paints under review just about everywhere I look! I am a believer in buying what you can afford, and there are good products in watercolor that are not top of the line that allows anyone to create a very good picture! Once you decide watercolors are a medium you like I say replace your paints as you use them up with better ones. I am always encouraging people to upgrade paper first! Now the 400 series from Strathmore is a good paper, but you can find 100% cotton paper for equal or lower prices! Brands are NOT the major consideration for buying paper it is cotton content. Sure Arches has the best reputation for working in watercolor and art in general they make a superior paper, you will pay for that reputation and I have done so many times! I have recommended Mimik watercolor brushes for their quality and price and this is second on my list when upgrading your supplies. Why is paint last to upgrade? Because even a good student brand made with pigments is going to be able to create some wonderful paintings and depending upon the paper used can last for many years! Gem, thank you for sharing your scottishisms and your joy in creating art. You have a wonderful channel and are truly a delightful person, thank you.

I recently bought an older set of Paul Rubens that was on sale on Amazon, and then this came out and I wanted it but the price was $70 Canadian; a bit high after just buying a different set. But today is prime day and they went on sale, and I just watched your video and saw that the colors in this set are almost all different from my set (only a few the same), so I just ordered it, lol. Love your video watching 2024. I got the Basic bright set 20 pans ....I want the whole set .I dont like the tools and I use make up brushes and fine paint brushes .I also used . Got to be Glued hair spray . it workd lovely, for me hahahah . love this video xxxxxx🥰🤣😂

I know your questions are more for the chat, but I am working on getting some watercolor papers stretched. I have recently purchased some new stretcher bars, The kind used in the inexpensive canvases? I used to do it all the time in college and after too. I got some watercolor papers on rolls so I got a frame of 14 x 36 stretched for a panorama painting with Nicker poster paints! The kind used on Studio Ghibli films? Well I got some and I am quite excited to use them! I like the frames for watercolors/any water media since you can use staples to hold the paper and it is so easy to cut the paper off and not worry about tape at all!

Thank you for your farm talk. I grew up on acreage in Australia and am very aware of the animal quality of life rule. However when my second Son moved out I bought a black Lab. She has been my first dog as an adult and has been the 'perfect' dog since day one. Pepper is now 9yrs old and has been on arthritis supps for years. She recently had an Arthroscope to remove a fragment of bone. We are six weeks in and so scared that the lameness wont settle. Im so not ready for the euthanasia talk. Animals aren't with us long enough. I can't imagine ever bonding like we have with any other dog.
